SUSTAINERS
The 263 sustaining
members of the Junior League of McAllen play a vital role in the
fulfillment of the organization's Vision Statement.
Through financial support and countless hours of volunteerism, the
sustaining members insure that community projects and cultural events
exceed expectations. Rioscape would not
have been possible to build without the overwhelming contributions of time and effort by this
dedicated group of remarkable women. Each December,
Dias Festivos Marketplace is a success because
sustaining members bake for the hospitality booth, model in the style
show, and shop!
These sustaining members have given anywhere from 5 to
50 years of service to the Junior League of McAllen. Grateful for
the education and training received from the league, these ladies put
their skills to use by volunteering as dedicated members of churches, the
synagogue, and organizations such as Palmer Drug Abuse Program, the Boy
Scouts, the Museum of South Texas History, the International Museum of Art
& Science, the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, and the McAllen Economic
Development Corporation.
During Dias Festivos
Marketplace 2008, at the "Sugar
and Spice" Gala and Auction, the Junior League of McAllen
invited the community to help honor three of our Sustainers. The Gala
was held on December 5th at Quinta Mazatlan - a night of appreciation,
recognition, fundraising and fun. We honored Bailey Gurwitz, Patty Fallek and Janet
Wallace each with a Lifetime Volunteer Achievement award.
